After The Fast and the Furious exploded into theaters in 2001, Universal expected Vin Diesel to return as Dominic Toretto. The studio reportedly offered him more than $20 million for the sequel, a staggering payday for an actor whose street-racing character had become an instant phenomenon.<\/span><\/p>\n

But Diesel walked away from 2 Fast 2 Furious, leaving Paul Walker to carry the 2003 follow-up without Dom beside him. To outsiders, refusing such an enormous offer looked reckless, especially when the original film had transformed Diesel into a major action star.<\/span><\/p>\n
