By September 1957, Elvis Presley had become a national phenomenon, but original guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black said their own finances had barely moved with his success. The musicians who helped create his explosive early sound were struggling to support their families while watching the business around Elvis grow enormously.<\/span><\/p>\n

The breaking point arrived after a difficult tour stop in Portland and an attempted instrumental recording session in Los Angeles. On September 7, Moore and Black submitted resignation letters, transforming years of private frustration into a public split that Elvis reportedly never expected.<\/span><\/p>\n
